This research was conducted because of students at SMA Negeri 1 Belitang Hilir had difficulties in speaking, it causes by lack of confidence, lack of ideas for what to say and a fear of making mistake. This research aims to boost the students’ participation and speaking through the implementation of Talking Stick Method. This research used qualitative and quantitative approaches. The researcher implemented Classroom Action Research (CAR) method was carried out in two cycles and consisted of two meetings for each cycle. This research involved thirty five students in tenth grade of MIPA 1. The qualitative data was collected through observation, interview, and documentation. Meanwhile, the quantitative data was obtained from speaking score test. The implementation of the first cycle indicated that the research activity was not progressing well because several weakness were found. Some data had not passed the minimum requirement in the achievement indicator. At cycle I students’ participation was 68,17% meanwhile the students’ speaking score test was 56,85%. The reflection was made and conducted for the second cycle about the result in the first cycle. The result in the second cycle showed that the students’ participation and the score could increase well. It was marked from the students’ participation that came 93,17%, while the score of students’ speaking test 76,14%. Therefore, these two scores are considered to have passed the minimum score on the achievement indicator, with a difference in the percentage of student participation of 25% and a difference in student speaking test scores of 19.32% as the final result. In conclusion, the implementation of Talking Stick Method enhanced the students’ participation and scores in learning speaking.
