Abstract

Ayuna.2024, Improving Student‟s Speaking Skill Through Short Dialogue Technique At Eight Grade SMPN 1 Binjai Hulu in the acedmic year 2023/2024. Thesis, English Language Education Study Program at STKIP Persada Khatulistiwa sintang Advisor 1: Ferdinanda Itu Meo, M.Pd , Advisor II : Yokie Prasetya Dharma, M.Pd .BI. Keywords:short dialogue, speaking skills, SMPN 1 Binjai Hulu This research aims to discover to improvement of students‟ participation and students‟ speaking skill through short dialogue technique At eight grade in SMPN 1 Binjai Hulu. The Researcher conducted this research to solve the problems face by the students at class VIII A of SMPN 1 Binjai Hulu. This research employed a classroom action research design. To collect the data the researcher used observation, interview, measurement and documentation. The instrumentations used were observation checklist, field notes, interview guideline, speaking test and video recorder. The finding showed the application of short dialogue technique could improve the students‟ speaking skills and students‟ participation. This technique made students enthusiastically and actively engaged the speaking learning activities in the class. Besides, short dialogue technique made students confident when speaking in English. Through the implementation of this technique the students could communicate with other. Based on the findings of the research, the researcher recommends the following things: first, this technique must emphasize preparation, such as the material, short dialogue for the students. The next thing playing itself, where the teacher should ensure students explore the short dialogue that have been given by the teacher.
