Keywords: Teaching Writing, Descriptive Text and Running Dictation The main problems of this study are low student participation, monotonous learning techniques, lack of student interest in learning, lack of student motivation in learning English and lack of student understanding in determining ideas and also grammar. The purpose of this study was to determine the increase in student participation and describe the increase in students‟ writing skills in learning activities through the application of running dictation techniques. The subjects of this study were students of class X MIPA consisting of 25 students, 10 boys and 15 girls. The method used in this research is Classroom Action Research (CAR), the procedure for this class action research is taken from the design proposed by Mc Taggart. It consists of two cycles and each cycle involves four steps: (1) planning, (2) action, (3) observation, (4) reflection. This Classroom Action Research (CAR) uses qualitative and quantitative data. Qualitative data were collected through observation, interviews, field notes and documentation while for quantitative data the authors used tests to obtain student scores. Based on the research results from the data that has been collected and analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively, it can be seen that the increase in students in cycle I and cycle II was 24.88%. Then the increase in learning to write in cycle I and cycle II was 29.6%. From the results of this study, the researchers showed that there was an increase in learning participation and writing results for class X MIPA students of SMA N 4 Sekadau Hilir through the application of running dictation techniques.
