Antonius Yosep Wuring. 2021. Teaching Vocabulary Through Flashcard At Seventh Grade Students of SMPN 4 Tempunak. Thesis, English Language Education Study Program of STKIP Persada Khatulistiwa Sintang. Advisor I: Tuti, M. Pd. and Advisor II: Sijono, M. Pd. Keywords: classroom action research, flashcard, vocabulary The purpose of this research is to determine students’ understanding in learning vocabulary. This research was conducted based on the problems by seventh grade student at SMPN 4 Tempunak in learning vocabulary. The students had low participation and low of vocabulary mastery numbers. This research used a qualitative approach with classroom action research method carried out in two cycles. The subject of this research is VII A class with 25 students consists of 12 male and 13 female. In this research, the researcher used observation, measurement, documentation and interview as a data collection techniques and
observation sheet, testing, recording visual, interview guideline and field note as a instrument. This research uses qualitative data analysis techniques with an interactive model consisting of data collection, data presentation, data reduction and data verification. The finding of this research showed that students
understanding on vocabulary were improved gradually. In the first cycle the students mean score was 61, 1 and in the second cycle was 77, 5. Based on the results of the average students score above the KKM, this research is categorized as successful and belongs to the good category. It mean using flashcard in
learning vocabulary able to increase the students vocabulary.
