Abstract
Billy Takarino. S. 2025. An Analysis of Students' Difficulties in Learning English in the second semester of the English Education Program at STKIP Persada Khatulistiwa Sintang.Thesis. English Education Study Program STKIP Persada Khatulistiwa Sintang. Advisor I: Ilinawati, M.Pd, Advisor II: Tuti M.Pd. Keywords: English learning, external factors, English Education Program,
internal factors, learning difficulties The purpose of this research is to analyze the difficulties faced by Second semester students in learning English in the English Education Program at STKIP
Persada Khatulistiwa. Although English is a major subject in the curriculum of teacher training institutes in Indonesia, many students still encounter obstacles in mastering the language. These challenges may hinder their academic performance
and reduce their confidence in using English for communication. The research focuses on identifying both internal and external factors that contribute to students' learning difficulties. Internal factors include lack of motivation, low selfconfidence, limited vocabulary, and insufficient grammar knowledge. External factors involve teaching methods, the availability of learning resources, the
classroom environment, and support from family. A quantitative descriptive approach be used to explore these issues. Data will be gathered through structured questionnaires using a five-point Likert scale and interviews with selected students and the English lecturer. The analysis provide insight into the types and causes of the difficulties students experience and offer recommendations for
improving English learning outcomes. The results of this study are expected to help lecturers and educational institutions develop more effective strategies to support students in overcoming language learning challenges.
