Keywords: error analysis, procedure text, writing This research aims to analyze the students' errors in writing procedure text and the obstacles when students' writing procedure text. The purpose of this research are (1) To find the common errors which made by Eight Grade students of SMPN 5 Kayan Hulu in writing procedure text. (2) To find the obstacles in writing among the Eight Grade students of SMPN 5 Kayan Hulu in writing procedure text. In this research, the researcher used qualitative research. The data collection technique was collected from documentation and interview. The instrument of collecting data is document and interview guideline. The number of subjects was taken from three classes. It is VIII-A, VIII-B and VIII-C which consist of 65 students.The researcher analyzed students' writing product, which took from the students writing procedure text. Based on the results writing procedure text, there were errors 218 errors in students writing procedure text. After analyzing the collected data, it was found that students' writing errors in writing procedure texts. The finding was classified into 4 types of errors, namely omission, addition, misformation and misordering. There were 36 students who made 74 (33.9%) cases of omission errors, 27 students who made 61 (27.9%) cases in addition, 34 students who made 68 (31.2%) cases in misformation, and 10 students who made 15 (6.8%) cases of misordering. It could be concluded that the omission is the mostly common error on students‟ procedure text and obstacles when students write procedure text, because students lack vocabulary, and do not understand about grammar.
