The background of this research is the students low motivation in learning writing and students’ writing ability were still very low. The aim of this study is to generate students’ interest in writing descriptive text and to describe the students’ improvement in writing descriptive text. The subject of this study consist of 18 students at class VIII In SMPN 3 Dedai. This study applied Classroom Action Research design that used both of qualitative and quantitative data. Qualitative data were collected throught observation, interview and field notes, while quantitative data is gained throuht a test. The result showed that, there were positive improvement students’ ability in writing descriptive text. It could be seen from the result of the observation checklist, field notes, interview and test. The result of the observation checklist was 91,7%. The students’ writing result are also good, with an average score was 78,3%. Based on that result, Clustering technique can increase students’ ability in writing descriptive text. For the English teacher this research expected to help English teacher overcome the students’ difficulties write descriptive text. Then, for the other researchers the writer hopes this research helps the other researchers who wants do the research releated with the topic.
