Abstract
Trifornawati. 2023. The Use of Tongue Twister Technique to Improve Students’ Pronunciation at Eleventh Grade in SMK Negeri 1 Kelam Permai. Thesis, English Education Study Program, STKIP Persada Khatulistiwa. Advisor I: Henry Elisa, M.Pd., Advisor II: Ilinawati, M.Pd.Keyword: pronunciation, teaching pronunciation, tongue Twister This research aims to describe the improvement of students’ participation and ability in learning pronunciation through tongue twister technique at eleventh grade student of SMK Negeri 1 Kelam Permai in academic year 2023/2024. The subjects of this study is eleventh grade student of SMK Negeri 1 Kelam Permai in academic year 2022/2023 which amount to 27 students. In this research the writer used Classroom Action Research. It contained two cycles and each cycle involved four steps: planning, action, observation and reflection. The writer used observation, interview, measurement and documentation as the technique to collect the data. The instrumentation for the data collection that used in this research observation checklist, field notes, interview guidelines, test sheets and video recording. The results of this research can be explained as follows: (1) in the process of teaching pronunciation using tongue twister, the results showed there was positive increase in student activity in learning to pronounce. In cycle 2 the results of the observation cheklist were 89.28%. (2) The students’ pronunciation also had a good increase in cycle 2 with average score 70.37%. Based on these results, the use of tongue twister technique can improve students’ pronunciation learning process and improve students’ ability in pronunciation.
