Abstract
Monika Yuyen. 2026, The Influence of Students’ Perceptions of AI Technology Use on the Effectiveness of Computer Science Learning in Grade 10 at SMK Negeri 1 Sintang. Thesis, Computer Education Program, Department of Vocational and Computer Education, STKIP Persada Khatulistiwa Sintang. First Advisor: Fatkhan Amirul Huda, S.Kom., M.Pd. Second Advisor: Leonardo Hendri Riberu, S.T., M.Kom. Keywords: Student Perception, AI Technology, Learning Effectiveness, Spearman Rank Correlation, Vocational School The research problem is that students’ perceptions of teachers’ use of AI technology in computer science instruction remain low, while the effectiveness of student
learning is also not yet optimal. This study aims to determine students’ perceptions of the use of AI technology, the effectiveness of computer science instruction, and the influence of both on 10th-grade students at SMK Negeri 1 Sintang. The method used was quantitative with an ex post facto approach. The population consisted of 715 10th-grade students for the 2025/2026 academic year, with a sample of 257 students determined using the Slovin formula through proportionate cluster sampling. Data were collected via a questionnaire as the primary data source,
supplemented by observations and documentation. Since the data did not meet the assumptions of normality and linearity, the analysis used the Spearman Rank Correlation test and the Coefficient of Determination. The results showed that
students’ perceptions fell into the Moderate category (Mean = 45.84; SD = 12.116), and the effectiveness of computer science instruction also fell into the Moderate category (Mean = 59.16; SD = 6.275). The Spearman Rank Correlation test yielded
rs = 0.402 with a significance level of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a positive and significant influence of students’ perceptions regarding the use of AI technology on the effectiveness of computer science learning, with a contribution of 16.16%,
while 83.84% is influenced by other factors. It is concluded that students’ perceptions regarding the use of AI technology have a positive and significant effect on the effectiveness of their computer science learning. The implication of this study is that efforts to improve the effectiveness of computer science learning need to consider students’ perceptions of the usefulness and ease of use of AI; therefore, schools and teachers should integrate AI in a well-directed manner through continuous training and usage guidelines that encourage students to use it critically,
while also taking into account factors beyond students’ perceptions.
