Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to describe (1) the form of errors in the use of punctuation marks; (2) the form of errors in the use of capital letters; (3) the form of errors in the use of italics; (4) the form of particle word errors; and (5) the form of errors in writing words with affixes in news writing on the STKIP Persada Khatulistiwa Sintang website for the year of 2020-2021. This research is motivated by low language skills in news writing on the STKIP Persada Khatulistiwa Sintang website in 2020-2021. This study used a qualitative research approach with descriptive research methods. The object in this study was language errors in news writing on the STKIP Persada Khatulistiwa Sintang website for the year of 2020-2021, which amounted to 83 news stories. The data collection instruments used in this study were documents and data cards. Based on the results of the study, it was found that there were 51 errors in the use of punctuation marks, 66 errors in the use of comma punctuation, 170 errors in the use of capital letters, 84 errors in the use of italics, 4 errors in particle writing, and 28 errors in the writing of affixed words. This study can be of the reference in teaching Indonesian to the Junior High School students especially for grade VIII in old semester, with the Basic Competence 4.2, namely presenting data and information in the form of orally and writing news by paying attention to structure, language, or oral aspects (pronunciation, intonation, mimic, and kinesics). The conclusion of this study is that the news text on the STKIP Persada Khatulistiwa Sintang website for the year of 2020-2021 has many errors in terms of writing, from 83 news stories that have been analysed, 403 findings were found. The most errors were in the use of capital letters, namely 170 errors, the use of italics amounted to 84 errors, the use of comma punctuation amounted of 66 errors, the use of punctuation marks amounted of 51 errors, writing affixed words amounted to 28 errors, and the smallest errors were in writing particles, amounted of 4 errors.
