Abstract

Intensive reading is a foundational component of second and
foreign language pedagogy, particularly in tertiary EFL contexts where learners are expected to engage critically with academic texts. Unlike extensive reading, which emphasizes fluency and general comprehension, intensive reading focuses on detailed text analysis, including vocabulary, grammatical structures, discourse markers, and meaning construction at both sentence and discourse levels.
