Thesis, English Language Education Study Program of STKIP Persada Khatulistiwa. Advisor I: Yokie Prasetya Dharma, M.Pd.B,I. Advisor II: Ferdinanda Itu Meo, M.Pd
Keywords: Teaching Writing, Guessing Game, Descriptive Text
This research was conducted because students had low interest in learning. In addition, they had difficulty writing or finding ideas for writing, resulting in very low writing skill. This research aimed to describe the increase in student participation and writing skill in learning activities using guessing games technique. This research was analyzed using the classroom action research (CAR)
method with qualitative and quantitative approaches. In this research, the researcher used observation, measurement, interviews, and documentation techniques to collect data. The instrument used to collect data were observation checklists, field notes, tests, and interview guidelines. The results of the research
showed an increase in writing skill and students involvement in learning activities. In the first cycle, the average score for students' writing skill was 55.29%, and in the second cycle, it was 78.43%. Student participation in learning activities also
increased, from 62.5% in cycle I to 75% in cycle II. It can be concluded that the guessing game technique can improve students' writing skill and also increase students participation in learning activities in the classroom, especially for seventh
grade students at SMPN 5 Ketungau Hilir. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of the guessing game technique can improve students' writing skill and increase students participation in class. The researcher hope that the guessing games technique can continue to be used as an effective learning method to
improve students' writing skill and participation in class, specifically in English language education.
